Evangelist Chovan Family Prayer Letter Fall 2014

Dear Brethren, Friends, Family, Prayers and Supporters,
We rejoice to share God's blessings with this desire:
"For what Thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God....praying exceedingly that we might see your face..." (1 Thes. 3:9,10)
We have been overseas for most of the past twelve weeks and praise God for the opportunity to serve in three countries:
BRAZIL
This was my second time to this great country. I went alone in 2012 but was so glad to have Grace and Jonathan with me this time. While we were there, Brazil was hosting the World Cup Soccer Tournament so the country was crazy with excitement. Most businesses shut down so everyone could attend or watch the Cup games.
We arrived Sunday morning at 6:50 AM, June 8, at the Sao Paulo airport. We were picked up by BMM missionary, Terry Broyles. He and his wife, Wendy, and five children have labored in Jundiai, north of Sao Paulo, for many years. We preached in three different churches in the area and also preached a Couples Retreat in a beautiful mountain resort. Pastor Broyles, Pastor Lucio, Pastor Alexshandra and Pastor Douglas are all faithfully planting churches and being used mightily by our God. Bro. Terry planted the Bible Baptist Church years ago but is now starting a new church. This church has recently purchased land are are making plans to put up their first building.
We were blessed to see six souls profess faith in our Savior! We also saw many believers challenged in their walk with our Lord. Pray for these new believers and the churches who follow up and disciple them
PERU
Grace and Jonathan returned to the USA on June 26. Jonathan, under his mother's supervision, began the process of learning to drive while I went on to Peru. It is helpful that Grace really enjoys helping young people learn to drive. We tell her she missed her calling. She should have been a driver's ed instructor. :-)
I flew alone from San Paulo to Urubamba, Peru.. This was my fifth time of protracted ministry in Peru. (2006,8,10,12, and 14). I arrived in Urubamba on Friday, June 27, and began a heavy six week preaching schedule. I preached the saving Gospel of our Christ in many different churches. I also taught a Judaism course in the Bible college in Urubamba.
My usual translator, missionary friend Ken Loveall, was on furlough so Eric Pardine filled that role in a VERY competent way. The Tim Whatley family was also on furlough but the Pardines, Rojas', Campbells, Rachel Tarvin, The Fitzgeralds and the Greenwoods were all serving in their amazing ministries. I preached in all their ministries and God blessed with 26 precious souls professing faith in Christ for salvation. Again, pray for the baptism and discipling of these new believers.

"For we preach not ourselves, but
Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves
your servants for Jesus' sake."
2 Corinthians 4:5

KENYA
I left Peru at midnight, August 8/9. Grace picked me up in Atlanta and the three Chovans then drove to Detroit to fly out to Kenya, Africa. We were joined by mother and daughter, Sarah and Clover Rhoden from First Baptist Church of Upton. Clover is 16 and very interested in being a missionary to Africa. She had prayed since age 12, to have the opportunity to visit Kenya. We arrived in Nairobi, the capital, late Friday night, August 15. This was my second time to Kenya but the first for my family. American Missionary Pastor Robert Mickey, his wife Wendy and remaining two children at home, Stephen and Elizabeth, were our hosts for the nearly three weeks of ministry. Bro. Mickey was used to start The Grace Bible Baptist Church in Nakuru 16 years ago. The church now has 500 in attendance. He has turned over the main church ministries to a national Kenyan, Justice Oloo. Pastor Mickey now devotes his time to the Bible college and the many missionaries the church has sent out to Burundi, Congo and South Sudan. We preached several times at GBBC and taught a course on the Christian Family in the Rift Valley Bible College. (This is the same valley that extends to the Jordan Rift Valley in Israel). There were 40 pastors taking this course who are already pastoring churches throughout Kenya. We were also asked to preach Family Conferences in four different churches. The final church was located in Nairobi and Missionary BJ Cormier and his family minister there. They have a deaf outreach and Bro. BJ often preaches with voice and hands at the same time!

We returned to the USA on September 2 and now begin a full Fall schedule of meetings in the USA and Canada. We look forward to every church and opportunity that our Lord has set before us.  Please continue to pray for our physical and spiritual health, safety, provision and fruitfulness.  We praise our God for your love, friendship , prayers and financial support.  Again, we could NOT do what we do (humanly speaking) without you.  Be assured of our prayers for you.  We love you all and trust that our Father will continually lead you all into the center of His will.
